Burnaby RCMP is warning the public after a woman was sexually assaulted on her way back to her car at SFU’s Burnaby Mountain campus Wednesday night.

The woman was walking from her classroom towards the parking lot at about 7:30 p.m. when she heard a noise behind her and was grabbed by a man.

The suspect held and sexually assaulted her but quickly released her and ran away at the sound of voices from passersby in the area.

The suspect is described as a tall man with a medium to heavy build with a deep voice and no accent.

He was wearing a grey, long-sleeved hoodie or shirt.

"We want to caution the public when walking at night to stick to well-lit areas and stay off your electronic devices to increase your situational awareness," Staff Sgt. Maj. John Buis stated in a press release.

SFU campus security is also available to escort individuals to their cars, Buis added.

Police are looking for help identifying the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
