Police watchdog investigating after man found unconscious in Vancouver jail cell

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO BC) has been called on to look into an incident that occurred this past long weekend.

On Monday, Oct. 11, Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers arrested a man around 2:40 p.m. for breach of conditions. They took him to VPD cells, according to a press release from the IIO BC.

"At approximately 4:40 p.m., the man was found unconscious in his cell," states the IIO BC. "Medical assistance was provided, and Emergency Health Services transported the man to a local area hospital."

No further details have been provided about the incident. The VPD has declined to comment on the incident.
