Community Savings Credit Union has its own Worst Dressed list, with a twist - the objectionable outfits are helping to raise money for charity.
The credit union is holding its second annual Ugly Sweater Contest this season.
The public is invited to vote on the ugliest sweater at www.wowthatisugly.com and for each vote, the credit union will donate $1 to Food Banks B.C. up to a total of $1,000, according to a press release from Kirsten Allen, marketing coordinator for the credit union.
Allen was last year's winner, sporting a bright red knit sweater with an adorned Christmas tree on the front - complete with lights and Santa's head at the top - and a dangling stocking trim. She was awarded an equally visually stunning trophy.
"The trophy is hideous," she said in the release. "My sweater is pretty bad this year but I hope someone's is worse, because I want that trophy off my desk."
Employees at the credit union's branches wore the sweaters to work on Dec. 7, and voting is open until Dec. 31.
Six employees at the credit union's Burnaby branch are participating this year - Val Bahnman, Linda Doan, Amanda Morrison, Larissa Ruditsch, Barb Schiller and Gina Vancek.
"We had an excellent response to this campaign last year due to some truly hideous sweaters," Cam Gillett, the credit union's manager of process improvement, said in the release. "The website attracted over 3,000 visitors, far exceeding any expectations that we had."
As of Dec. 11, the website had more than 700 votes, according to Allen.
The credit union's head office is based in Surrey, with six branches throughout the Lower Mainland and Victoria.
