A large pothole along Highway 1 at Willingdon Avenue in Burnaby damaged 10 vehicles during the morning commute on Friday.

RCMP Cpl. Garth Domm of the Port Mann Freeway Patrol said that while the pothole wasn't very wide, it was deep. Deep enough to damage 10 vehicles some of those twice.

"It was deep enough for the whole wheel to go in, that's about as deep as you can get it," he said.

RCMP patrol were called to the scene around 7:30 a.m. When they arrived, they were able to divert traffic around the pothole, which was in the right-hand lane.

According to Domm, some vehicles had multiple wheels damaged and were towed from the scene.

The cause of the pothole is still unclear, but Domm said that it had just been filled yesterday. The rain overnight may have caused the filling to collapse.

News1130 reported around 10:30 a.m. that the pothole had been repaired.
