Residences and businesses were without power for about an hour thanks to a garbage truck that hit an electrical pole near Hastings Street and Madison Avenue.
According to firefighters on scene, at about 1:30 p.m. a garbage truck was emptying a garbage bin in the lane between Hastings and Albert streets, when it struck a power pole. The damage was severe enough that the Burnaby fire department closed off the lane while B.C. Hydro crews fixed the pole.
Power was cut to businesses and residences between Hastings and Albert streets from Carleton and Rosser avenues, firefighters said.
B.C. Hydro crews had power back online by about 2:45 p.m.
