SNC-Lavalin Inc. has been chosen to design and build the Evergreen Line, according to a press release from the provincial Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

The company was one of three teams that responded to the project request for proposals. The other two teams were EL Partners and Kiewit/Flatiron Evergreen Line.

The planned Evergreen stations are Lougheed Town Centre, Burquitlam, the Port Moody West Coast Express station, Ioco, the Coquitlam West Coast Express station, a station at Coquitlam City Hall with access to Douglas College, and Lincoln station at Coquitlam Centre.

The 11-kilometre rapid transit line includes fewer stations than originally proposed, and Burnaby council has been pressing to have a guideway for a future Cameron station included as part of the project, since there are physical requirements that would make it impossible to add it to the system at a later stage.

The Evergreen Line project is using advanced light rapid transit technology - as was used for the other two SkyTrain lines - and will link to the Millennium Line, with connections to the Expo Line, Canada Line, the West Coast Express and bus stops.

The Evergreen Line project is expected to cost $1.4 billion.
