A Burnaby resident is facing nine counts of thefts for an alleged string of purse snatchings between January and April.
The 51-year-old man was arrested June 1 following an investigation by Richmond RCMP into a series of purse snatchings at shopping malls and restaurants throughout the city, according to a media release from Mounties.
The alleged thefts began on Jan. 6 and continued with a second on Feb. 17, three in March and four in April, ending on April 24, according to online court records.
“This individual was extremely confident in what he did, how he did it, and who he targeted. His arrest comes from a large team effort using good old-fashioned police work and modern crime analysis,” said Richmond RCMP Cpl. Ray Basi, in the release.
Ahmed Baladie is charged with nine counts of theft under $5,000. He is currently out on bail and is scheduled to return to court on June 30.
