A proposed new federal riding connecting parts of North Vancouver and Burnaby is already receiving negative feedback, according to a recent poll commissioned by
Burnaby-Douglas MP Kennedy Stewart. In early September, Stewart conducted a telephone survey of affected North Vancouver residents who could be part of Burnaby North-Seymour, a new riding proposed by B.C.'s electoral boundaries commission.
The commission, an independent group of three appointees, has redrawn the riding maps for B.C. to accommodate the province's growing population.
Stewart's poll questioned North Vancouver residents in the affected area if they supported the new riding, and of the respondents who held an opinion on the matter, 80 per cent were opposed. In all, 1,007 North Vancouver households responded to the phone survey. Stewart is planning a similar phone survey in Burnaby in the coming weeks.
