Five Burnaby RCMP officers will be riding in the Cops for Cancer bike ride later this year.

Cpl. Michel Ling, Const. Sebastien Simard, Sgt. Stephane Brossard, Const. Iain Thomson and Const. Tammy Anonson will participate in the nine-day, 900-kilometre ride to raise money for cancer research.

"This is my second year riding," said Brossard. "In the past year, my motherin-law has been fighting cancer, and so far she's winning the battle. But I've also lost two family members to cancer in the past year. So this year, I have a purpose. I will be riding for my mother-in-law, a good friend, Erica, who is battling leukemia, and for the kids and family who are affected by this horrible disease."

"I'm an avid rider and I'm really excited to be participating," said Anonson, who will be doing her first Cops for Cancer ride. "This is a great cause and to be able to combine my love of riding with such a worthy cause is very fulfilling."

The officers will host several fundraisers in the next couple of weeks, with the goal of raising at least $6,000 per rider.

People looking for more information or wanting to donate can contact Anonson at 604294-7922.
