There were two unusual motor vehicle accidents early Sunday on Highway No. 1 in Burnaby.
In the first incident, a motorcycle going east near the Kensington overpass around midnight hit another vehicle.
Inspector Davy Lee, regional duty officer for the RCMP's Lower Mainland Regional Police Service, said a man and a woman on the motorcycle suffered minor injuries.
"Alcohol was a factor in that crash," said Lee of what is still an ongoing investigation.
The second accident occurred about two hours later in the same area but on the westbound lanes of Highway No. 1.
Two police vehicles that had responded to the motorcycle crash were parked in the high-occupancy lanes with their emergency lights activated.
That apparently wasn't enough warning for a SUV, which struck one of the police cruisers, driving it into the other police vehicle.
The officers were not in their vehicles, which suffered "extensive damage," according to Lee.
An investigation is also under way into that crash.
