Burnaby RCMP are investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday evening in the Old Orchard shopping complex on Kingsway and Willingdon Avenue.

According to a press release, witnesses saw three men sitting in a silver BMW parked in the lot. One of the men exited the vehicle and appeared to be walking away when he turned back towards the BMW and fired two shots at the other two men in the vehicle.

The police believe this is a targeted shooting involving local gang members known to authorities.

"At this stage, it appears to be a gang-motivated shooting between peripheral players believed to be involved in the drug trade," said Sgt. Peter Thiessen, RCMP spokesperson, in the release.

According to police, the shooter left the scene in a vehicle that "was apparently waiting for him," while the men in the BMW fled on foot.

No bystanders were injured. Police are asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the shooting to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 604222-TIPS.
