The third annual B.C. ShakeOut, a province-wide earthquake drill, is taking place on Oct. 18 at 10: 18 a.m., according to a press release from the City of Burnaby's emergency program coordinator, Charmaigne Pflugrath.

"During the drill, participants will be asked to 'drop, cover and hold on' for up to two minutes, simulating the quake-safe response to an earthquake event," Pflugrath stated in the release.

Everyone is welcome to participate. The theme for this year's drill is Secure Your Space, she added, and participants are encouraged to assess their surroundings and take appropriate precautions.

It will be the largest earthquake drill in history, according to Pflugrath, with California, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Guam, Puerto Rico and southern Italy participating, as well.
