Burnaby company Golden Boy Foods Ltd. is voluntarily recalling its Golden Boy brand in-shell mixed nuts because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency put out a warning this week to the public to avoid the product sold in 1.36 kg (3 lbs.) mesh bags with UPC code 0 64684 10948 0.

The nuts are sold in B.C. at Extra Foods, No Frills, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Shop Easy/SuperValu, Superstore, Westfair and Your Independent Grocer.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with this product, but the food agency warns of the potential for salmonel-losis, a food-borne illness that can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. For more information about the recall, visit www.inspection. gc.ca, or call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
