Two Remembrance Day parade routes have been approved by Burnaby city council for Sunday, Nov. 11.
The Heights Legion, branch 148, will be holding its annual parade along Hastings Street and into the surrounding neighbourhood.
The parade route starts at 10: 30 a.m. at the Safeway at Hastings Street and Willingdon Avenue, heading east to Alpha Avenue, where it will turn north, going to the Cenotaph in Confederation Park, according to a report from the city manager's office.
The ceremony at the Cenotaph starts at 11 a.m. The parade will then return along the same route, until it reaches Rosser, where it will turn south, then west to the lane behind the legion.
The streets are expected to be open again after the parade is completed, at about 12: 15 p.m., as well as briefly during the ceremony between the two parades.
South Burnaby Legion branch #83 has also received approval from council for its annual Remembrance Day parade.
The parade will begin at 5289 Grimmer St. at 10: 15 a.m., and will march west on Royal Oak Avenue, south to Imperial Street, and west to Jubilee Avenue, then past Jubilee and Imperial.
Jubilee Avenue will be closed until about 12: 30 p.m., when the ceremony is completed, and streets around the route will be barricaded to control traffic, according to a city staff report.
Signs will installed on Kingsway, Royal Oak Avenue, Imperial and Nelson streets a week prior to the parade, the report added.
