Burnaby ramps up summer programs with locals getting first crack at them

As the weather gets nicer, more amenities will be open across Burnaby.

If you live in Burnaby and are looking for things to do this summer, you'll get the first crack to register. 

The City of Burnaby says registration for summer programs throughout the city will begin on May 31 at 9 a.m. for residents and non-residents on June 3, with first programs starting on June 28. 

The following programs are included: 

  • Summer Camps at Burnaby recreation centres, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Art Gallery and Burnaby Village Museum
  • Blacksmithing Basics at Burnaby Village Museum
  • Canoeing at Deer Lake
  • Kayaking at Barnet Marine Park
  • Get Ready for Kindergarten
  • Hike Hike Baby and more

Programs are available for preschoolers, children, adults, youth and people 55 years of age and older. 

"Enhanced health and safety protocols are in place to ensure participants can safely enjoy Burnaby’s rich variety of cultural and recreational offerings," a statement from the City of Burnaby says. 

"If any programs are cancelled as a result of direction from health authorities, refunds will be provided."

Pools

Central Park and Kensington outdoor pools will open to the public tomorrow (May 22) while Robert Burnaby and MacPherson will begin operating on May 31. 

For those wanting to use the pools, advance registration and payment will be required. 

Spray pads will also be turned on starting tomorrow and run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. until Labour Day in September. 

Parks

The city is asking visitors to follow guidelines while using city parks amid COVID-19, which also see crowding quickly.

  • Stay home if you are feeling sick
