Vancouver police and Burnaby RCMP are searching for a suspect after a police car was rammed by a man driving a stolen pickup truck last night on Lougheed Highway.
Sgt. Randy Finchman, a spokesman for the Vancouver police, said shortly before 10 p.m. officers responded to a break-and-enter at a business in the 3400-block of Lougheed Highway.
He said a man fled the scene and got into a stolen pickup truck with a woman waiting in the passenger seat and drove east on Lougheed.
Fincham said officers attempted to box and pin the truck, but the suspect smashed through the police cars and was last seen driving into Burnaby. One police officer sustained minor injuries in the crash and was treated on scene by paramedics.
"Police did not pursue the truck out of concerns for public safety," said Fincham, in a news release.
Officers located the stolen vehicle abandoned at Eton and Willingdon Street in Burnaby but could not locate the man and woman.
The man is described by police as white, in his 50s with a heavy build. Fincham said he may have suffered a cut to his head in the collision.
Police do not have a description of the woman in the truck.
