Police are searching for the suspect in a robbery on Kingsway Sunday night.

A woman called police around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday after a man stole her iPhone out of her hands while she was waiting for the bus at Kingsway and Edmonds Street.

While the woman didn’t suffer any serious injuries, she was knocked to the ground during a struggle with the suspect, Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Daniela Panesar told the NOW.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect had already fled. A police dog was brought out to try and catch the suspect’s scent, but that was unsuccessful, Panesar added.

“It’s still under investigation, so if anybody has any information regarding that incident call the Burnaby RCMP,” she said.

Anyone with information can contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922.

The robbery comes less than two weeks after RCMP issued a reminder to residents to take extra care when it comes to personal safety.

The RCMP say most criminals choose victims who appear “vulnerable and distracted,” which is why the force is urging residents to be aware of their surroundings at all times, noted a statement released by Burnaby RCMP earlier this month.

“Being aware and prepared is so important for personal safety,” Panesar said the release. “Be extra vigilant in areas that are known for robberies such as transit hubs, shopping areas and poorly lit pathways.”
