University of Denver defenceman Joey LaLeggia was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association defensive player of the week on Jan. 17.
The Burnaby native recorded five points and a plus-2 rating, while dishing out six hits and stopping two shots on goals in a weekend sweep over Bemidji State last week.
LaLeggia scored a goahead goal and had one assist in a 6-3 win over Bemidji on Jan. 13. He also figured in on all three of Denver's goals in a comeback 3-2 win over BSU.
LaLeggia leads all NCAA Division I rookie defencemen with 24 points, including a nation-best nine goals and 15 assists.
The former Northwest Giant star is currently on a six-game points-scoring streak. LaLeggia currently ranks second among WCHA blueliners in goals and is third in total points.
