One week after teachers voted 73 per cent in favour of withdrawing its support for extracurricular activities, a Burnaby choir has been silenced.
The 150-member Marlborough Elementary school choir had been scheduled to perform at the Burnaby Village Museum on May 18 for the 25th anniversary of Rick Hansen's Man in Motion tour.
But with the uncertainty over what teachers may or may not be participating in, the choir was pulled off the list of scheduled performers and replaced by a private school choir.
Nancy Stagg, from the museum's marketing department, confirmed the switch with the Burnaby NOW but added that another school event, a regional heritage fair to be held May 11 and 12 at the village museum, is scheduled to go ahead.
Jodie Wilson, communications manager for the Burnaby school district, said she wasn't aware of any other Burnaby schoolrelated events being cancelled because of teachers withdrawing their support for extracurricular activities.
All high school graduation ceremonies are proceeding as scheduled, she said.
There still is no official word on whether the high school track-and-field championships, scheduled for June 2 at Swangard Stadium, have been affected by the teachers' vote.
