The man who died after an incident with Vancouver police in Burnaby last week has been identified.

Myles Thomas Gray died after Vancouver police attempted to restrain him on Aug. 13. The 33-year-old was allegedly causing a disturbance along South East Marine Drive, and several officers were dispatched to the scene, as previously reported.

The situation escalated, crossing over the border into Burnaby, and in the 8300 block of Joffre Avenue an altercation broke out between Gray and the officers at the scene. Gray was injured, and paramedics attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene, according to the B.C. Coroners Service.

The Independent Investigations Office, B.C.’s police watchdog, is investigating Gray’s death to determine whether he died because of police misconduct. Meanwhile, the coroners service is also conducting its own investigation into cause of death.

Six police officers were also injured in the altercation. They were treated at the hospital.
