New Westminster city council is urging senior governments to collect disaggregated data to help better understand who is most impacted by COVID-19.

Health officials are working to contain a COVID-19 outbreak at a second Burnaby care home after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

Fraser Health Authority officials announced Wednesday that the worker had been working at the New Vista Care Home at 7550 Rosewood St.

The staff member is currently in isolation at home, according to a Fraser Health news release, and the health authority is working to identify anyone who may have been exposed.

New Vista is one of three long-term care homes in the health region with new outbreaks.

One positive case each was also identified at the Eden Care Centre in Chilliwack and Guildford Seniors Village in Surrey.

“To prevent transmission of COVID-19, Fraser Health is ensuring staff currently working at Eden Care Centre, Guildford Seniors Village and New Vista Care Home will not be working at any other facility,” stated the press release.

Fraser Health said it has put enhanced control and cleaning measures in place to protect staff and residents at the facilities.

New Vista is the second care home in Burnaby to be hit by the virus.

Earlier this month, Fraser Health said a resident of the Swedish Assisted Living Residence at Halifax Street and Duthie Avenue had tested positive.
