The South Burnaby Neighbourhood House and Voices of Burnaby Seniors are teaching volunteers how to help the elderly.
The volunteer training is for people, 55 years or older, who want to reach out to isolated seniors and help them connect with community services and resources.
The training covers self-awareness, communication, how to take action, health issues and more.
The training runs on Mondays, from April 23 to June 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the McGill library branch, 4595 Albert St. (There's no session on Victoria Day, May 21.)
To register for the training, call Talia at the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House (604-431-0400), or email seniorsoutreach@ sbnh.ca.
SPRING PLANT SALE
Now's the time to pick up low-cost plants from local growers at the South Burnaby Garden Club sale.
The group of green thumbs is holding the sale on Sunday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Royal Oak and Rumble Street.
The club's members divide plants from their own local gardens to sell at the annual event.
The club saw more demand for garden vegetables and herbs last year, so there will be more of those on sale for the coming season.
Besides edibles, there will also be ornamental flowers, trees and bushes.
