Simon Fraser University is giving away more than $26,000 worth of prizes at an open house event May 26 on Burnaby Mountain.

The event is expected to attract 10,000 visitors.

Some of the prizes include free tuition (for up to 15 credits), an Apple iPad, a trip to Haida Gwaii, and accommodation in SFU residence for one semester.

The open house runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with more than 100 interactive exhibits, presentations and performances, stretching from Cornerstone town square to Convocation Mall.

Approximately 1,500 current students, staff and faculty from all three SFU campuses will be on hand to answer questions about the university's program offerings and share their personal experiences of studying or working at SFU.

"The open house is evidence of our commitment to being Canada's most community-engaged research university," said SFU president Andrew Petter. "It will enable members of the public to learn firsthand about our innovative educational programs, exciting research initiatives, and far-reaching community connections."

The SFU open house is a free, all-ages event and will be held rain or shine.

Families will enjoy kid-friendly activities planned for Convocation Mall, transforming it into a giant carnival.
