A shooting in South Burnaby Tuesday night has police wondering if there’s a connection between the victim and suspect – or if it was a random incident.
Mounties were called to the 7200 block of 16th Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday after shots were heard in the area.
“There was a man outside, somebody approached him – an unknown man – pulled (out) a handgun and fired several rounds,” said Staff Sgt. Maj. John Buis, spokesperson for the Burnaby RCMP.
The victim, 19, was uninjured in the shooting, and no property damage has been reported, Buis said.
Investigators found several shell casings and live rounds at the scene, but have yet to determine the motive for the attack, according to Buis.
“We have no idea if there’s any connection between the person that was shot at and the shooter, … if there is a connection or if it was random,” Buis added.
The shooter is described as black or Hispanic, about five foot five with a slender build. He was wearing a black toque, sweatpants and a white sweater with black arms. He appeared to be 16 to 18 years old.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922.
