Burnaby RCMP are following a number of leads since the Simpkins family made a public plea for the suspect of a fatal hit and run to turn themselves in.
"We've got a number of leads and that's all I can say at this time," Staff Sgt. Major John Buis told the NOW in a phone interview.
Ed Simpkins, a 72-year-old Burnaby resident, was killed when a car struck him while he was riding his bike along 13th Avenue at Wright Street. Simpkins' sister and daughter spoke with media last Friday at the site of the accident.
"We do understand that the driver must have panicked," said Janet Atkinson-Grosjan, Simpkins' sister, at the press conference. "... But it's been a few days now and you must be feeling awful with the guilt, so please, it's really time to say 'enough' and come forward. We need you to come forward so we can let Ed go in a dignified manner."
Buis said police are continuing to investigate the incident and expect to release more information in the coming days.
"This is not easy and we hope to have something in the next 24 to 48 hours," he added.
