An effort to catalogue homes throughout the province for assessment purposes comes to Burnaby next week.
Starting Sept. 24, B.C. Assessment vans will be on residential streets around the city, taking street-front digital photos of about 32,000 single-family homes in the city with digital cameras mounted inside the vans.
The effort is part of B.C. Assessment's property assessment program, which provides annual home assessments for homeowners.
The photo update initiative has already been used in Nanaimo, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Surrey, White Rock, Squamish and Maple Ridge.
"As the Crown corporation responsible for accurately valuing all properties in B.C., we are always looking for innovative ways to provide more timely, accurate, equitable and fair assessments to all property owners," said Zina Weston, deputy assessor for the North Fraser region.
B.C. Assessment will photograph only the public street front of a home including the street address number. However, no personal information - including any and all images of people on the property, visible signage on a residence that may relate to the identity of a person including vehicle license plates, or the interior of a residence - will be retained.
