Smoke, haze cover up last sunny day before week of rain and clouds

Clouds and chance of rain roll into next week starting Sunday.

Smoke filled Metro Vancouver skies on Sept. 10, the last sunny day before clouds roll in, after a fire broke out early morning.

Here comes the... smoke?

What could have been the last day of summer sunshine in Vancouver, before clouds roll in again, became smoke-filled skies due to nearby forest fires and an early morning fire.

The third alarm fire at a wood recycling facility along the Fraser River filled the sky with hazy smoke stretching to New Westminster, Richmond, and other parts of Metro Vancouver.

Despite the grey horizon, Environment Canada calls for sunny weather and a high of 24 degrees which will feel like 27 degrees due to humidity. The forecast expects local smoke to continue into the evening in addition to increased cloudiness.

Temperatures are expected to sizzle down throughout the week to highs of 21 and 22 degrees and a mix of sun and cloud starting Sunday (Sept. 11). Tuesday (Sept. 13) and Friday (Sept. 16) will see a 30 per cent chance of showers and Friday will also be the least warm day of the week with a high of 19 degrees.
