A man has been arrested after a marijuana grow operation on Hedley Avenue near Ron McLean Park was taken down recently.

According to a Burnaby RCMP press release, the RCMP's drug section recently executed a search warrant on the home in the quiet South Burnaby neighbourhood and located a marijuana grow-op in the basement. Police also discovered an electrical bypass and called in an electrician from B.C. Hydro.

The electrician expressed concern that the stress on the neighbourhood's electrical system was so severe that a fire was imminent.

"It is unacceptable that (people) will gladly put their neighbours in harm's way while in pursuit of the vast profits these grow operations generate," said Cpl. Steve Bolt of the Burnaby RCMP drug section. "We are doing all we can to ensure we locate and dismantle all illegal grow operations in the city of Burnaby."

Police are recommending charges against the man and discovered he is also facing charges for marijuana trafficking in an unrelated case.
