A Mercedes reported stolen in Burnaby was recovered by an Okanagan bike cop this week.
The bike patrol officer – with Vernon RCMP – was on patrol in that city at about 2 p.m. on Monday, when he spotted the suspected stolen vehicle, according to an RCMP press release.
The Mountie approached the white Mercedes in an attempt to arrest the driver, but the man jumped out of the car and fled, police said.
A short foot pursuit ensued and ended with the bike cop catching up to the suspect and taking him into custody.
A 30-year-old Kelowna man now faces charges of possession of stolen property and obstructing a police officer.
“This was great work by all the frontline officers involved, as stolen vehicles are often used to commit further offences,” Vernon RCMP Const. Kelly Brett said in the release.
