Surrey man charged in 2011 Burnaby assault

A 25-year-old Surrey man has been charged with aggravated assault after a year-long investigation into a May 2011 assault outside a Burnaby restaurant. On May 22, 2011, a Burnaby man was assaulted outside a restaurant in the 7100-block of Kingsway.

On May 22, 2011, a Burnaby man was assaulted outside a restaurant in the 7100-block of Kingsway.

Police worked on the case for more than a year and arrested Steven Archibald Mander on Dec. 13.

"Solving this type of violent crime is a top priority for the Burnaby RCMP," said Burnaby RCMP Supt. Derren Lench. "Members from the Burnaby serious crime unit worked tirelessly on this investigation. For a police officer, there is no better outcome than contacting the victim and their family to let them know that the person allegedly responsible has been arrested."

Lench added that Burnaby RCMP investigators have been in contact with the victim as he continues to recover.
