Mounties are recommending assault charges against two Vancouver men after an attack on a Burnaby man near Metropolis at Metrotown Saturday night.

Burnaby RCMP were called to the 4800 block of Bennett Street around 2 a.m. on Aug. 1 following reports of an assault in progress. When they arrived at the scene, they found a Burnaby man “suffering from multiple injuries,” according to a media release from Burnaby RCMP.

The 35-year-old victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police wouldn’t say what injuries he suffered, but did report that a weapon was found at the scene, according to the release.

One suspect, a 23-year-old Vancouver man, was arrested near the scene of the assault. Following further investigation, police arrested a second suspect, a 24-year-old also from Vancouver. Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 30.

While the investigation is still ongoing, police believe this is an isolated incident, even though it appears the suspects didn’t know the victim, according to the release.

Burnaby RCMP are recommending both be charged with assault causing bodily harm, according to the release.

Anyone with information on this incident who hasn’t already spoken with police is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
