Burnaby RCMP were called to a Metrotown apartment Friday morning for a man who barricaded himself into an apartment.

A stand-off at a Burnaby apartment building Friday morning ended with the arrest of a 31-year-old man, according to police.

Officers were called to the 4200 block of Grange Street just after 6 a.m. for a report of a man "behaving erratically," according to a Burnaby RCMP news release.

The man barricaded himself into a 26-floor apartment, police said, and the Emergency Response Team was called in to assist.

"Officers attempted to speak to the man to have him exit the apartment safely on his own," stated the release. "After several attempts to negotiate with the man, a decision was made to enter the apartment due to escalating safety concerns."

ERT officers entered the apartment and arrested the man at about 11 a.m., according to police.

The man was taken to hospital with what police described as minor injuries.
