She was a pioneer in the skies - and now she's coming to Burnaby to talk about her experiences.

Kucki Low will be on hand at the McGill branch of Burnaby Public Library on Thursday, June 7 to talk about her memoir, This is Kucki Your Pilot Speaking.

Low earned her private pilot's licence in early 1969 at the age of 23 - a time when not many women were becoming pilots anywhere in the world.

She was the first woman to do so in Namibia (then called South West Africa) and went on to become the first female commercial airline pilot in South Africa.

Her memoir will be available for sale at the event at a cost of $20.

The talk runs from 7 to 8 p.m.

Admission is free, but space is limited. Register online at www.bpl.bc.ca/ events, pop by the library at 4595 Albert St. in North Burnaby, or call 6042998955.

A press release notes that the first edition of the book sold out before copies even reached the Nikkei Centre - this event celebrates the second edition, which is more detailed and contains rare photos from the Greenwood Museum and the Franciscan Sisters archives.
