Target opening in Burnaby in 2013

American retail giant coming to Metropolis after major renovation to Zellers site

The U.S. based Target has announced that Metropolis will be home to one of its new Canadian stores by winter 2013.

The retail giant had previously announced it was purchasing the leasehold on the Zellers location in Metropolis at Metrotown.

Each Canadian location will cost about $10 million to remodel "in order to bring the full Target brand experience."

The company also announced today that the Burnaby location will hire between 150 and 200 staff members, starting in 2013.

In all, the company is planning to open more than 125 stores across Canada, most of them scheduled to open in 2013.

There are currently 1,746 stores in the U.S.
