School may be out for summer, but the Burnaby Teachers' Association is hosting a party for Ian Cunliffe, the North Vancouver teacher who set off on a crossB.C. marathon to raise awareness about the provincial government's Bill 22.

The early morning party is set for Friday, Aug. 31, from 9: 30 to 10: 30 a.m., and the public is invited to attend and have some snacks and refreshments. Cunliffe will be there to talk and mingle before he sets out for the next leg of his journey to North Vancouver.

As part of the ongoing labour dispute between government and teachers, the B.C. Teachers' Federation has been critical of Bill 22, which (among other things) prohibits teachers from striking and imposes hefty fines if they do. The Burnaby Teachers' Association, the local branch of the BCTF, is at 3993 Henning Dr. For more information, go www.burnabyteachers.com.
