In the 2011 election, TEAM Burnaby candidates were ready to go, but when the election rolled around, all civic nominees ultimately lost to the Burnaby Citizens Association's candidates. TEAM intends to run a full slate in the 2014 election this November.

The civic election this November could see a full slate of TEAM Burnaby candidates on the ballot.

In an announcement released Monday morning, TEAM Burnaby is holding a nomination meeting this July to choose candidates to represent the party.

"Currently, TEAM Burnaby is talking to several prominent citizens of Burnaby who have shown desire to run for TEAM and have a strong desire for political change in Burnaby," the release states.

Amal Sylva is the party president of the right-leaning party, and he said an upcoming annual general meeting will flesh out TEAM’s strategy and campaign platform.

“A lot of people are interested in running,” he told the NOW. “We’re just sending information out, trying to talk to people and we’ll have our nomination meeting.”

The party intends to run a full slate for mayor, council and school board, Sylva noted.

In the 2011 election, TEAM Burnaby also ran a full slate for the mayor and councillor positions, but all ultimately lost to the Burnaby Citizens Association’s sweep of seats.

Former city councillors Garth Evans and Lee Rankin ran. Evans received 10,705 votes of the 34,035 votes cast. Rankin received 11,461.

TEAM candidate for mayor Tom Tao lost against Mayor Derek Corrigan by 19,585 votes.

In the last election, June Jeffries, Jeffrey Chiu, Jim Favaro, Ray Power, Lotus Chung, Graham Murchie all also ran under the TEAM Burnaby banner.

Sylva said an official announcement will be made after the nomination meeting this summer on who will challenge the Burnaby Citizens Association candidates for TEAM.
