A 16-year-old Burnaby boy has been charged with robbery after a North Burnaby incident involving a woman being attacked at a bus stop.
The incident occurred on April 12 and was witnessed by members of the Burnaby RCMP's Strike Force team who were investigating a series of violent personal robberies in the northeast part of the city.
Police officers were on surveillance duty when they noticed a 16-year-old boy approach and speak to a number of people without committing any crimes.
Just prior to the end of the surveillance, officers watched as the boy approached a woman at a bus stop. He engaged the woman in a friendly conversation. Without warning, he then pulled her to the ground and began to drag her behind a row of bushes in an effort to rob her of her backpack.
Police officers then intervened. While the boy attempted to flee on foot, he was quickly apprehended. The woman was not seriously injured in the attack.
The boy cannot be identified because of his age.
