About 600 customers in an industrial area of Burnaby have been without power since 5 a.m. today.
Thieves cut and stole a copper wire from Telus' Cypress central office early this morning and local police are investigating, according to a Telus media release.
"Telus technicians are on scene and are working to restore service to customers as quickly as possible," the release states. "To restore service, technicians must gain access through a manhole to repair the underground cable."
Telus said it expects to restore the cable this evening, but due to the repair's complexity, crews must work through the night into tomorrow to complete the work and reprogram the system.
Service is expected to return to normal late Thursday, Aug. 22, afternoon.
"Telus thanks its customers for their patience and understanding," the release states.
