There was just one COVID-19 case identified on the Sunshine Coast last week

The Sunshine Coast reported only one new case of the virus for the week of Nov. 21 to 27.

After eight weeks of new COVID-19 cases in the double digits, the Sunshine Coast reported only one new case of the virus for the week of Nov. 21 to 27. 

The last time one new case was reported for the Coast was the week of Aug. 8 to 14.

Between Nov. 21 and 27, the Howe Sound area reported 74 new cases, while Powell River reported no new cases of the virus.

For the first time, the BC Centre for Disease Control’s weekly reports also included a spot for data about the vaccination coverage of residents ages five to 11 years old, but numbers were not yet available.

As of Nov. 29, of Sunshine Coast residents 12 and older, 85 per cent had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, while adults 18 and up had a double vaccination rate of 86 per cent. 

Coasters ages 12 to 17 reported 83 per cent had received their first shot, and 77 per cent had two. For the adults ages 18 to 49, 84 per cent had one shot and 78 per cent had both. In the 50-plus category, 92 per cent had received one jab and 90 per cent had two. Forty-five per cent of Coast residents 70 years old and older had their third dose by Nov. 29.
