The salmon are returning to Burnaby to lay their eggs.
Burnaby resident Mark Angelo sent along this video of salmon struggling to make it upstream at Stoney Creek to lay eggs after four years away.
Angelo said chum salmon are now gathering in small numbers but it’s still early in the season. More are expected soon.
“The fish are easily see from atop the dam,” Angelo told the NOW previously. “They have not yet moved into many of our local streams in large numbers, but in the next week to 10 days, we should see chum returning.”
These are the areas where you can see the fish returning.
- Stoney Creek
- Cariboo Dam at the east end of Burnaby Lake
- Eagle Creek (Charles Rummel Park is a good viewing location)
- Beecher Creek
- Guichon Creek (behind the BCAA building on Willingdon Glen looking downstream is a good viewing spot)
- Still Creek (on Gilmour across from Dick's Lumber looking upstream is often a good spot)
- Buckingham Creek on the north side of the Deer Lake Beach parking lot) will often have chum return in early November.
