A 16-year-old boy is facing first-degree murder and accessory after the fact charges in relation to the Dec. 2, 2011 death of Branson Sanders in Burnaby.

Branson's badly-burned body was found in the bushes off Fareham Avenue and Elwell Street.

Police investigators believe Sanders' body was dumped in the Edmonds area and that his death actually occurred at a residence in the 18000 block of 55 Avenue in Surrey.

Three months after locating Branson's remains, the RCMP's integrated homicide investigation team arrested and charged Brandon Nandan and Shakib Shakib with second-degree murder.

Investigators had reason to believe Shakib had fled to Alberta and was returning to B.C. Police arrested Shakib in Clearwater on March 6. Nandan was arrested separately from Shakib. Both men were 19 at the time of Sanders' death.

On Nov. 21, the charges against Shakib and Nandan were raised to first-degree murder, and each now faces the additional charge of indignity to a dead body.

Nandan is currently out on bail with a number of conditions, while Shakib remains in custody.
