A thirst for Red Bull on New Year's Eve has clipped a man's wings in Burnaby.

A thirst for Red Bull on New Year's Eve has clipped a man's wings in Burnaby.

As the clock ticked towards midnight, the man went into a Shell gas station in the 4500-block of Canada Way and allegedly tried to steal two cases of Red Bull, said Burnaby RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Marks.

An alert store clerk activated the store's emergency systems, locking the man inside.

According to Marks, the Red Bull bandit then smashed the glass and fled the scene with the two cases.

"He got angry and kicked the window out and then fled," said Marks.

RCMP were on the scene within minutes and eventually located a man near the crime scene.

"Being New Year's Eve, who knows what he wanted the Red Bull for," said Marks.

The 22-year-old man is still in custody. He is expected to make a court appearance Wednesday on robbery charges.
