1. The Riverway Clubhouse is one of Burnaby’s hidden treasures. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the golf course setting provides diners an oasis to escape to. Whether you’re there for lunch or dinner, the picturesque and panoramic views of all the greenery are guaranteed to bring you some inner peace. Don’t be surprised though if you run into a wedding or two. The menu, meanwhile, is mouth-watering to say the least. Nibble on truffle-scented french fries or the Mexican-grilled corn, served with a watermelon salad. The chef has an array of kebabs on the grill, including pesto prawn, and kielbasa and pineapple. Don’t forget to ask about the soup of the day! Prices are affordable, ranging between $7 and $16. Riverway is open Sunday to Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Location: 9001 Bill Fox Way; for reservations, call 604-294-4883.

2. Head to the Horizons patio on Burnaby Mountain for some delicious food and drink. The 360-degree views overlooking the water are breathtaking, especially at sunset. You’re surrounded by lush trees, beautiful rose gardens and a tourist-favourite – the Japanese totem poles. Make sure you bring a camera!
The West Coast cuisine was created by chef David Knight, who specializes in seafood and meat cooked to perfection on an alder wood grill.
Other offerings include a Sunday brunch, with Knight cooking the omelette of the day right in front of your eyes. For those with a sweet tooth, there’s maple orange french toast, topped with icing sugar. The lunch menu has a house smoked salmon clubhouse, while dinner consists of pork tenderloin, Pekin duck breast and a red curry tofu bowl. We can’t forget dessert. The apple rhubarb cobbler is to die for!
Did you know that Horizons was established in 1986? Before it came to be, it was a popular casual restaurant called The Owl and The Oarsman, known for its generous portions of lobster and steak. However, the stunning views couldn’t be seen because the building had no windows! That’s when Horizons was born.
Location: 100 Centennial Way; for reservations, call 604-299-1155.

3. Our list wouldn’t be complete without Hart House Restaurant. The historic building in Deer Lake Park won’t disappoint, especially the 60-seat patio in the back. It’s abound with the sights and sounds of nature, including a water-front view.
From the excellent service to its scrumptious food, Hart House has earned a reputation for its five-star fine dining experience. Looking for something refreshing? 4. Catch the view of the North Shore Mountains from the Earls patio. It’s secluded, intimate, and even has a fireplace. Despite being close to traffic, the surrounding flower gardens create a natural environment. It’s also a great spot to people watch on a warm evening!
Hungry? Dig into a chicken, brie and fig sandwich or the chicken curry. Then there’s the kung pao noodle bowl (careful, it carries some heat). Earls is another a popular brunch stop on the weekend. Our fave? Sourdough french toast ($12) with a stewed berry compote, Chantilly cream and pure maple syrup. Everything is baked in-house daily.
