It's warmer, if not drier, now that spring has sprung in Burnaby. So this is the perfect weekend to get out and about in the city. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. For the March 8 to 10 weekend, we have .
1 Get supporting the Junior Musical Theatre Troupe at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. The troupe is taking part in the Junior Theatre Program Showcase this Saturday at 9 p.m. at the centre, at 6450 Deer Lake Ave. There will also be an original play from the drama two: creation and performance program. For more information, call 604291-6864.
2 Get "dolled up" for Burnaby North Secondary's spring musical production of Guys and Dolls. The show runs until Saturday at 7 p.m. nightly, and there is a noon matinee Friday, as well. Tickets are $10 for students and $12 for adults, and are available from the school office or call 604-664-8550.
3 Get together for the Art of Being Together exhibit fundraiser at the Nikkei Centre, 6688 Southoaks Cres., on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. The exhibit is put on by L'Arche Greater Vancouver. The artwork was created by teams of artists with and without developmental disabilities.
The theme of the exhibit is Me and My Community. There will also be a silent auction and musical performances at the event. Admission is by donation.
4 Get kids' stuff at the Kidstuff Only Swapmeet at Willingdon Community Centre, 1491 Carleton Ave., on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It looks to be a busy one this year, with 40 tables of previously owned items. Admission is free. For more information, call 604-297-4526.
5 Get out of town and support the Burnaby South Rebels at the 2013 B.C. high school AAA girls' basketball championships this Saturday - schedule to be announced. This is the first time the team has made it to the championships since 1964.
The championships take place at the Langley Events Centre. Go to www.langleyeventscentre.com/aaa girls for schedule and location information.
6 Get hiking the 500 stairs up Burnaby Mountain. The trail is a city secret, hidden away behind the Harry Jerome Sports Centre at 7564 Barnet Hwy. Follow the trail up to the Playground of the Gods on Burnaby Mountain for some truly spectacular views of Burrard Inlet, whether or not the sun is shining.
