Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Look no further – the Burnaby NOW has compiled our weekly list of things to do. Here are our top picks for this weekend. Take a walk around Burnaby Lake on Saturday, Jan. 10 with local bird-watching enthusiast George Clulow.
- Winter is the optimum time to see various species of birds, and Clulow, who coordinates the annual Christmas Bird Count in Burnaby, is an expert on all things bird related. The walk is roughly two kilometres long and starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $5. Register at Burnaby.ca/webreg using barcode 357032.
- Celebrate at the annual Nikkei Community New Year’s party on Saturday, Jan. 10. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the reception and dinner start at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50, but children get in for free. The centre is at 6688 Southoaks Cres. Info: 604-777-7000.
- Don’t miss the final game of the St. Thomas More varsity boys’ basketball tournament on Saturday, Jan. 10. The final match is at 6:30 p.m. in STM’s new gym. The school is at 7450 12th Ave., at Kingsway and 12th Avenue. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for students, or $5 for the final two games. (The penultimate game is at 4:30 p.m.)
- Take the kids to storytime at Lougheed Town Centre on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 10:30 a.m. Every Saturday, Lougheed hosts storytime and crafts for kids in the mall near London Drugs.5 Bonsor Recreation Complex is hosting free water polo for kids on Saturday, Jan. 10.
- The Burnaby Water Polo Club is hosting the event, and girls and boys aged six to 13 are welcome to participate.
