A Burnaby fitness club has been shut down for 10 days by Fraser Health due to COVID-19.
The Brentwood Club 16 Trevor Linden Fitness on Lougheed Highway has been listed on Fraser Health’s new workplace closures website.
“The closure notice may be served by Public Health or WorksafeBC and the closure will remain in place for a minimum of 10 days to prevent further transmission of COVID-19,” reads the statement by Fraser Health.
A second Club 16 Trevor Linden Fitness, this one in Abbotsford, has also been listed as closed over COVID-19.
The closures come about a week after provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said health authorities would start to disclose the names of workplaces where three or more people have COVID-19 and transmission is likely to have occurred.
The move is meant to stop the spread of COVID-19 in viral hot spots, eventually limiting community transmission.
“By using targeted worksite closures around current cases of COVID-19, we may be able to avoid or delay broader workplace closure measures, which could close entire business sectors,” notes Fraser Health on its website.
