Two 20-year-old Burnaby men have been charged in a “life-threatening” stabbing outside a Calgary library Monday.
At about 3 p.m. on Feb. 13, a 46-year-old man was standing outside the Louise Riley Library at 1904 14 Avenue N.W. in Calgary, when he spotted two men he believed were trying to sell drugs to a woman, according to a City of Calgary news release.
When the man asked the two men to leave the area, a “verbal altercation” ensued that quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
“One of the suspects subsequently stabbed the victim, and he was transported to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition, but has since been upgraded to stable,” stated the release.
Both suspects fled the scene before officers arrived, but several witnesses came forward with information, and security footage captured the incident, providing suspect descriptions, according to the release.
At about 5:30 p.m., security at another library in downtown Calgary noticed two men who fit the suspect descriptions enter the building.
Security contacted police, and the suspects were arrested a short distance from the library.
Aggravated assault charges have now been laid against Samif Namier and Bati Ahmed Mohamed, both of Burnaby.
Namier was also charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
