Simon Fraser University is looking to expand its student space and add a 2,500-seat outdoor stadium to its Burnaby campus, the Simon Fraser Student Society announced recently in a press release.

The Build SFU project would cost $65 million and would add 100,000 square feet of student space to the campus, including space for clubs, teams, groups, expanded social space and outdoor seating, the release stated.

The expansion would also accommodate the growing population on Burnaby Mountain, including an increasing student population, the release added.

The Build SFU project is going to an online referendum for undergraduate students on March 20 to 22, to decide whether to go ahead with the plan.

In advance of the referendum, the society has opened up a Build SFU Think Tank orientation room, including architectural plans and 3-D video renderings by Endall Elliot architects.

The think-tank is set to be open Monday to Friday from 9: 30 a.m. to 5: 30 p.m. and is located at MBC 2270 at the Burnaby Campus, a floor below the Highland Pub.
