A 55-year-old Vancouver man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a female massage client earlier this week.

Vancouver police launched an investigation after a female victim reported that an unregistered massage practitioner had assaulted her while she was lying on the massage table during a Wednesday, Feb. 10 appointment at a business near West Broadway Avenue and Macdonald Street.

As a result of that investigation, Chun Zhen Tang is charged with one count of sexual assault, said Cst. Tania Visintin during a media briefing on Friday, Feb. 12. The BC Prosecution Service approved the charge on Thursday.

“Thankfully this woman didn’t sustain any physical injuries from the assault and she was able to call police immediately after the incident occurred,” said Visintin in a release issued Friday afternoon.

"We hope with this charge being laid that this woman can now find peace after this traumatic incident," she added during the briefing.

Tang was released on bail. He is subject to a court-ordered condition that prohibits him from providing massage treatment to any female, Visintin said.

His next court appearance is scheduled to take place in March .
