A Burnaby man is dead after he was found shot in a small cul-de-sac near Canada Way.

Mounties were called to the 7900 block of Wickham Place, a cul-de-sac off Berkley near Canada Way, around noon today (Wednesday) after receiving reports of shots fired in the area, according to a media release from Burnaby RCMP.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries a short while later, stated the release.

Burnaby RCMP believe the man was the victim of foul play and have called in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Not much information is known at this time as to the motive behind the alleged shooting but police don’t think it was a random attack, according the release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by emailing [email protected]. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Less than 12 hours earlier, around 1 a.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to shots fired near a townhouse complex in the 2700 block of Ellerslie Avenue, just north of Lougheed Highway between Bainbridge and Sperling avenues.

The suspect managed to get away before officers arrived but some witnesses reported seeing either a tan or black sedan drive off. Three people were in a car when the shots were fired, all were uninjured and none had any “apparent” gang connections, according to Burnaby RCMP.

Anyone with information about the Ellerslie Avenue shooting is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

About three weeks ago, Mounties were called to the 4100 block of Eton Street following another report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they confirmed shots had been fired but no suspects were apprehended.

Three suspects were spotted by witnesses just after the shots were heard. One suspect was seen running west down Eton Street, while the other two, both wearing masks, were seen getting into a silver van parked on the street. A black SUV was also seen leaving the area around the time of the shooting, Burnaby RCMP reported in a media release.

It’s unknown whether any of these incidents are connected. Calls to police for more information have not yet been returned.
